Les Useres, the wines of Castellón
In the month of April my first visit to a winery in the province of Castellón (see post), geographical location for 500 years lived in part of growing grapes and making wine, but after the plague of phylloxera was eroding and to cultivation and 80's almost became extinct last century the cultivation and processing of vines and wines.
Knew through the website of the Geographical Indication Vins de la Terra de Castelló, most wineries formed the association of wineries, and some other that not being in it, winemaking in these areas.
Today we went to visit one of these, perhaps the oldest in the area, and the surprise is that we have found two more, a newly established, in which we have found different wines and very attached to the 'terroir' with what the day has made us very helpful even though we had a couple of hours of storm.
Bodega Les Useres is a Agrarian Society in the municipality located in the village of Les Useres, near the neighboring town of Vall d'Alba, which was founded around the year 1,960, this winery is comprised of nearly a hundred partners who provide some 600,000 kg of grapes, mostly Tempranillo and Macabeo and recovering native and the Bonicaire to make rosé.
Today we found the cellar in full harvest, there were unloading hopper tractors with Tempranillo's grape as it is the only reception of grapes from the winery. This goes to the stemmer that sends the grape pumped to tanks of 50,000 liters. Stainless steel and temperature control, which then macerated to pass to the trulli or underground tanks where it ferments. We have seen the fermentation of Macabeo and is quite spectacular, as in the photo will observe.
The majority of their wines are in bulk, but bottled is taking way and we can find some varieties such as Tempranillo and a 'coupage' of it with Cabernet Sauvignon that have gone through oak, rosé Bonicaire or white Macabeo varietal or blended with Chardonnay and ready for purchase at standard 75 cl bottle. with cork.
The most range wine cellar is a wine aged in a 12 months, in medium toasted American oak, 70% Tempranillo varieties and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has a cherry red color is very bright and very expressive nose recalling ripe red fruits like cherries in the mouth has a long and very fresh and fruity, is round and soft palate.
After this visit we went to dinner at La Barona, where we tasted a dish typical of the area, then visit two wineries that throughout this week I will be documenting in future post.

22nd Exhibition of wines, champagnes, liqueurs and traditional foods
Last Wednesday was inaugurated XXII Mostra de Vins, Caves, Licors i XX d'Aliments Tradicionals de la Comunitat Valenciana (Exhibition of wines, champagnes, liqueurs and traditional foods), and I tried the best of our land and had the opportunity to meet many people and to see old acquaintances. Until I was in the position of Bodegas Porsellanes (DO Alicante) as a commentator on its wines.

Vega Palancia Cellar (Castellón)
For a long time in one of my post I posted a note on the wines of the province of Castellón, unknown wines that have traditionally turned to producing after the abandonment occurred in the 50-60 years of last century. 
Today we visited a winery in the heart of the Sierra de Espadán, about 40 km from the city of Valencia, located in the province of Castellón inland.This winery is family court, producing about 6,000 bottles of red wine between table wine and nurturing Wines belonging to the area Vinos de la Tierra, in this case IG Castellón. The heart of the Sierra del Espadán, is rich in springs of very pure water and with little minerality, vegetation is Mediterranean, from mountain emphasis on plants as rosemary, thyme and others, and the trees dotting the landscape are pines, olive and a cork.
This winery has a 6 ha. vineyard with varieties such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot, plants young people, nestled in the quiet little Almaroz Valley, nestled between the foothills of the Sierra de Espadán and Palancia River in the municipality of Soneja. The south-southeast, about his situation 400-500 m. above sea level and about 12 km of coastline, and the composition of the soil makes this place ideal for growing vines.
The winery is located in the town of Azuébar, less than 10 km from the growing area. Harvesting is done manually and transported in boxes of 15 kg and chilled so it will not cause any micro fermentation, there is deposited oak barrels from 2000 to 3000 liters of capacity, where maceration at controlled temperature fermentation and then produce the wine. With gentle pumping over the wine remains in the barrels to be decanted into barrels French oak, where lie at least 12 months, then returned to oak casks and then bottled rounded to the bottle for 6 to 12 months.
The result is Black Label Palancia Vega, red wine varietal that after this long aging becomes a show all senses, underlines its deep red color, glyceric, with aromas of ripe fruit, hints of cinnamon and vanilla roasted background. The palate has good acidity, long drink, powerful, fleshy, with rounded tannins and mature.
The wine is tasted the 2006 vintage and now goes to the market and the family and special character of this winery and its owner, José Manuel Molina, expect great vintages and fine wines in the future. The ingrained way of doing the wines, following the family tradition, looking for a high level of quality and excellence, make it unique enjoy this wine at any time and understand the complexity and the naturalness of a mature development patient in our palate.
